For all of you who have been loyal readers of my little blog, I thank you for both your patronage and patience! My Husband and I have been out of the country-- and in the Middle East-- for several weeks now. The internet connection where we have been has been tremendously slow, and so I have not had the opportunity to update my blog since coming.
That having been said, I must say that it has been a wonderful and unique experience coming to the Middle East. The country we are in is very "western" by some standards, and yet it is still a society built upon honor, tradition, and Patriarchal values. I have very much enjoyed getting to amalgamate myself to the culture and experiencing a different-- but fairly familiar-- way of life. ;-)
My Husband and I traveled with his 80-year-old little grandmother, who hardly speaks a lick of either English or French, and that in and of itself has been quite the adventure! I am used to being "lady of the house," and queen of my own castle, so having to practically beat Sitte off with a stick just to wash dishes is very challenging! ;-) I have also enjoyed getting to meet all of my Husband's family-- and half of the mountain villagers in our town are related!-- but in particular, it's been a blessing to get to meet and love his three first-cousins, all girls. I wish they could have been my sisters-in-law! :) Also, we've been able to go to Mass fairly frequently at our parish across the street... barely more than a stone's throw away. So even I cannot be late to the Divine Liturgy!
During this "second honeymoon" trip and holiday, my Husband and I have been praying for the same three intentions... 1) For the strengthening of our marriage... 2) For the gift of holy obedience to God, in our particular places in life... and 3) For the blessing of children in the future.
As for discipline, that has been a little rough to enact, although goodness knows I've done my fair share of being snippy, etc. Our house echos something horribly, being all stone. And living with another person, especially one who must know everything under "her roof," can be challenging. ;-) However, the first week we were here, my Husband bought a bamboo cane from a vendor at a cute marketplace... my first experience with a cane... and we've learned that it can be both very effective whilst still being quiet. Excellent. :)
Well, I must be signing off... but first I wish to pose a question: For those of you who practice DD, CDD, LDD, or a combination thereof, what have you done to enact discipline when away from your home? What challenges have you had to overcome? Were there any interesting bouts of creativity you or your partner were able to come up with?
Last, if I am able, I will leave you with a photo I shot. (Will be in the "Links" section...) This picture means a lot to me, as my Husband came to this Holy Site and prayed earnestly for a wife. The next year, we were engaged, and now four years later, it was a blessing to be able to come back together and thank God through Mary! Also, this photograph is actually the result of a minor miracle. My SLR camera had been eating my digital files and after visiting this site, all of my photos of it were gone. I prayed and almost cried, begging God to please work a miracle, but I accepted it and praised God even amid the sorrow. A week later, they re-appeared! None of the other photos that had been eaten appeared, not is there any tehnological explaination that either my Husband or I can think of... we had done everything to recover the files (even checking to see if they were hidden somehow on the card). I promised God that if He would work the miracle, that I would use this image to bring Him glory... and so here is one way I can do so. Enjoy! I pray for every blessing upon you, my dear reader. Allah ma'ak / ma'ik!
